Bedtime By Name ("we") is operated by Pat Rhoads, operating as Bedtime By Name, PR Operations, PO Box 1361 Okotoks Stn Main, Okotoks, AB T1S 1B3, Canada. Contact: hello@bedtimebyname.ca. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What we collect

• About your child: first name only (never a surname), age, favourite things, chosen themes and values, story length, and optional extras you choose to give (a pet's name, a sibling's first name, a bedtime routine, things to avoid). We never ask for a last name, photo, school, birthday or location. Please don't include those in free-text fields.
• About you: your mobile number or email address, preferred delivery time and time zone, your consent record (date, time, wording you agreed to, channel and IP address), and any reports you send us.
• Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive a customer ID and subscription status, never your full card number.
• Stories: the stories we create for your child and basic delivery logs.

Why we use it

Only to write, safety-check and deliver your child's nightly story, run your subscription, answer you, and keep records of your consent. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or send marketing messages without separate consent.

Consent

You give express consent when you sign up and confirm (by replying YES to our text or tapping the email link). You must be the child's parent or legal guardian. You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP, using an unsubscribe link, or emailing us.

Service providers (some outside Canada)

We use these providers to run the service. Some are based in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed there and may be accessible to authorities under US law.

• Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) – website hosting; all family data, stories and consent records are stored in Cloudflare's database (D1).
• Twilio Inc. (USA) – sends our text messages (your phone number and message content).
• OpenAI (USA) – writes the stories and safety-checks them. It receives only your child's first name, age and story preferences. We never send your child's surname or your phone number, email or other contact details to the AI. OpenAI states that data sent to its API is not used to train its models unless we opt in (we don't) PLACEHOLDER – confirm current OpenAI API data terms before launch.
• Stripe, Inc. (USA) – payments and subscriptions.
• Zoho (ZeptoMail) – sends our emails, if you choose email (your email address and message content) PLACEHOLDER – state Zoho data-centre location (Canada or USA) once chosen.
• Google Fonts (USA) – website fonts PLACEHOLDER – remove this line if fonts are self-hosted before launch.

How long we keep it

While you're subscribed, we keep your child's profile and recent stories. When you cancel or unsubscribe, we delete your family's profile, stories and delivery logs within 30 days. We keep your consent record (date, time, wording agreed to, channel, IP address and opt-out date) for 2 years after you cancel, only as proof of consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), then delete it. SUGGESTED DEFAULT – Pat to confirm the 2-year consent-record period Stripe keeps payment records under its own policy.

Safety

Access is limited to the operator. Story links are long random codes and pages are marked so search engines don't list them. Please don't share story links publicly.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing hello@bedtimebyname.ca. You can also change story settings from the link on any story. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
